Government Exam for ABST & AIT
Once you have completed your Alberta Basic Security Training (ABST) or Alberta Investigators Training (AIT) course, the next step is to take your government final exam. The security guard licensing exam and private investigator licensing exam are administered by an official government proctor on specific dates each month and are offered online or in-person at the Tip of Spear facility in Edmonton.

Requirements to Write the Exam
Did you take the ABST course with Tip of Spear in-person?
If you attended all 4 days of the training, you can write the exam.
Did you take the ABST or AIT course with Tip of Spear online?
If you 100% completed the online course, AND received at least 80% on the module quizzes, you can write the exam.
Did you take the ABST or AIT course with another training company?
If you completed AND passed your ABST or AIT course, AND received a training certificate, you can write the exam.
Next Step: Apply for your Security Services Licence
Once you have written your exam, you will be emailed your grade from Tip of Spear within a week. Alberta Justice will also email you directly within 3-10 days with your official training certificate (download and save this certificate). Once you receive this, you can apply for your security services licence.
